Student Intern, The Loxahatchee River Historical Museum

Jupiter Inlet Colony, FL. June 1997-August 1998

My first museum experience was on the breathtaking Loxahatchee River which opens up at the Jupiter Lighthouse. Looking back I was such a deer in the headlights but under the direction of both Dr. Alicen McGowan and Angela Williams, I got my first taste of being am museum professional and have not look back since.

It’s hard to believe all the changes that have taken place since I worked at this little museum in Jupiter, FL. For starters the name is different; from The Florida History Center and Museum to The Loxahatchee River Historical Museum. Gone is the old-style cracker museum building. All those hurricanes took it out a few years ago,but the Jupiter Lighthouse still stands. While I was working on my undergrad I spent a good portion of the summer of 1997 doing everything and anything they asked of me.

Below is a portion of a letter written of my behalf from Dr. McGowan.
